Within the framework of the UIA’s international CELEBRATION OF CITIES competition, in 2003 the idea that had been presented at the 2001 Greek Architecture Biennale for the formation of a Mediterranean Metropolitan Park of Athens in southern Hymettus was introduced. In this landscape design study, extensive retaining walls are created for the planting and production of agricultural products that will then be available at outdoor markets on the mountain slopes. These outdoor formations simultaneously became the springboards for the walking and athletic use of Hymettus by the Athenians.
