The do_as series of household objects and furniture results from the assembly and articulation of different elements of wood and other materials, such as bricks, metal cables, funnels, basins, reeds, and mesh. It focuses on the materials of the new domestic culture as it is presented both in the urban experience and in the households of the Greek countryside where household work, outdoor activities, and agro-urban crops give a vital character to rural habitation. After recording and collecting, the findings are reorganized into uses of household materials that were not foreseeable from their original program. In the first phase, the collections and rearrangements of materials were used for visual installations with lighting objects and then the method of composing household objects called do_as was created. The design methodology resembles the logic of cooking recipes: The materials to be used, their quantities are determined, and by combining them, the furniture structures emerge. Every modular piece of furniture can be dismantled into the units of materials that compose it and returned to their original state, ready to be used in a new “recipe”, in a new form of utilitarian object. The sustainable design methodology is open to interpretations and the creation of new “recipes” for the production of indoor and outdoor household objects.
